It's really pretty easy. My thought is anything that helps contribute to what the actual product will be / feel like is worth rolling the sleeves up and learning . Catalyst sounds great but this has worked well so far.

Hi,
I guess that means that you have managed to learn to use the design view in Flex builder? I've seen quite a few designers try and give up, so hats off! And that means that you're impatient about Flash Catalyst, right?

We actually design in Flex and pass commented MXML / CSS to developers. Since we're not located in the same place, communication and defining exactly where / how the two sides integrate is really key. Great post.

Hi William,
I've tried remote collaboration tools and have always been disappointed. I haven't tried this one though so I'll take a look. Thanks for the tip!

About the working from home aspect, I think more of that can noe be achieved thanks to Adobe Acrobat Connect. I remember colloborating on a website project with a colleague of mine. We were both working from our homes and were able to share screens, exchange graphic assets and files, make screen annotations (on my screen or on his) and speak to eaach other using our microphones.

It was indeed an experience for me and I definitely enjoyed working that way. It definitely informed me that physical prescence isn't often required.

Hi Ryan,
thanks for the comment, and you're welcome :-)
As you understood I'm wary of Flash Catalyst, but I'm definitely intrigued by it. I think we both agree that the workflow as is needs to be improved. It's good that Adobe identified the issue and is taking a stab at it. To be honest I've been on the lookout for Flash Catalyst related news and I'd love to try it!

Hey Ariel, very good post. I think there are a couple of places where Catalyst can fit and you're not having to worry about generated MXML code. One is that the designer can use Catalyst to help convey the user story. They get to start thinking about what Flex can let them do and then use a tool that feels very much like Photoshop to start creating the experience. This is also great for prototyping.

How much of this code you actually want to use is entirely up to you. Throw it all out, keep some of it, whatever. I think the new Flex 4 components help here somewhat, but even if you rewrite it from scratch, I think we're hoping that Flash Catalyst makes communication easier. You're both essentially working on a Flex project, but from your unique perspectives.

Thanks again for the post, and if you have any questions, feel free to drop me a note.
